Ladder securing whilst working on 358 toppings and defence systems

Most of us will have had Sky or Openreach come to our homes and work on ladders, they will drill a hole into your wall for an expanding bolt, and secure the ladder before climbing on a fall protection system.

Our QAB bracket system can be utilised in the same way as an expansion bolt to secure your ladder. The days of working off ladders and step ladders on security fences with no fall protection or ladder security have gone. (Or should have gone)

So let’s have a look at how installers and maintenance engineers can comply with HSE Guidelines What are the options for securing ladders on 358 mesh? Not many.

The options are as follows:

■ tie the ladder to a suitable point, making sure both stiles are tied;

■ where this is not practical, secure with an effective ladder stability device.

It is not possible to secure the ladder at the top to razor wire, so secure it mid span with a QAB bracket pictured below.

Further harnesses can be utilised for enhanced safety.
